According to Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk, Kepa Arrizabalaga has told Arsenal he wants to leave after one season at the Emirates.

The Spaniard arrived last summer knowing that David Raya was Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, but the hope was that regular cup football and occasional Premier League opportunities would give him meaningful minutes.

Instead, Raya remained Arteta’s undisputed number one throughout the campaign, leaving Kepa with a limited role.

At this stage in his career, the former Chelsea goalkeeper is believed to be looking for a club where he has a realistic chance of playing every week rather than spending another season as a back-up.

That forced Arsenal to start looking at other options.

The one goalkeeper that is now being discussed is Andrea Berta and the club is recruiting Stefan Ortega.

The German won many admirers during his time at Man City, despite spending most of his time behind Ederson in the back row.

Ortega looks like the type of signing that rarely grabs the headlines but often proves to be important.

Raya is solid as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper, so the club doesn’t need another player who wants to shine. What they need is someone who is reliable, knowledgeable and ready whenever called upon.

Ortega fits that description perfectly.
