General Motors is reconsidering its plan to relaunch Cadillac in the UK, citing uncertainty in a “rapidly evolving” market.
Speaking to Autocar last year, when he was CEO of GM Europe, Pere Brugal said the brand would return “soon”, starting with the Lyriq, a rival to the BMW iX5 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. He called the United Kingdom “one of the [markets] that we’re focusing on” and said the launch was “getting closer.”
But the company has yet to make a firm commitment on a launch date and, a year later, has created just one dealer for right-hand drive Cadillacs: Charles Hurst in Dublin, Ireland, which offers the Lyriq along with the smaller Optiq and the seven-seat Vistiq.
Only 20 Cadillacs were registered in the UK between July 2025 and March 2026. Of these, 16 were new electric vehicle models. London-based GM authorized dealer Clive Sutton continues to import left-hand drive Cadillac Escalades.

A GM spokesperson told Autocar: “As the UK market and electric vehicle landscape continues to evolve rapidly with the emergence of new competitors, we are actively reviewing our future Cadillac plans to ensure they remain aligned with market conditions and customer demand, and will continue to evaluate future opportunities accordingly.”
The threat of new Chinese brands in the premium sector has left little room for Cadillac to make inroads in the UK. Many newcomers have launched electric SUVs comparable to those of the American brand. In addition, Europe’s biggest premium brands – notably BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo – have recently launched new and improved models.
The reassessment comes as Cadillac adjusts its broader global strategy. The brand had originally planned to go electric-only by 2030. However, on its recent first-half earnings call, GM CEO Mary Barra said, “Starting next spring and continuing through 2028, we will begin launching the next generation of Cadillac ICE vehicles.” Among these models is a new generation of the CT5, its rival to the BMW 5 Series.
