GTA 6 might finally have a proper race track

- GTA 6 may finally include a proper asphalt track, potentially called Port Gellhorn International Raceway.
- The track appears to borrow elements from real-world circuits, including Sebring, Nürburgring and Monza, rather than copying a single track.
- A dedicated race track could open the door to more serious racing content, from circuit racing and time trials to future GTA Online events.
For a franchise so focused on cars (mostly theft), it’s a bit surprising that we’ve never had a proper asphalt race track in a grand theft car game. But that could finally change with grand theft car 6.
A leaked map of Leonida, the fictional Florida-inspired state where the game is set, recently appeared on Reddit. Like our friends in The trip and the Discord folks pointed out that it appears to show a dedicated asphalt racing track.
If the map is legit, as it appears, this could be the first true road course in GTA history. The big question is: what real-world track is it based on? The track is reportedly called Port Gellhorn International Raceway, which doesn’t give us many clues. But since GTA 6 takes place in Florida, there are some obvious choices.
We immediately ruled out Daytona, both for its location and for the simple fact that it’s clearly not an oval. Sebring seems like the most obvious inspiration based on track location, but even that’s not a one-to-one recreation.
As a YouTuber saukko505 points out, there isn’t actually a single real-world track that perfectly matches GTA’s fictional track. There are some obvious similarities to Sebring, but certain corners also seem to draw inspiration from famous circuits around the world, including the Nürburgring and Monza.
Saukko505 provides a detailed breakdown of the similarities in the video below:
It’s worth reiterating how cool this could be: grand theft car has never had a dedicated, proper asphalt circuit comparable to Sebring, Road Atlanta or Laguna Seca.
Sure, previous games have featured small ovals, dirt tracks, and some makeshift routes. But this appears to be the first asphalt circuit built specifically for racing.
And the apparent track isn’t simply a loop that falls somewhere in the middle of Leonida. Online detective analysis suggests it could be part of a larger motorsports complex, possibly with a race track and other racing activities.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the name “Port Gellhorn.” The original GTA 6 2022 leaks contained references to Gellhorn International Raceway in the game files, and in the second GTA 6 trailer, Lucia wears a t-shirt with what appears to be “Gellhorn International” branding.
None of this officially confirms that Port Gellhorn International Raceway is coming to the final game, much less that it will look exactly like the version shown on the leaked map. But it is increasingly difficult to ignore the evidence.
This could be a big problem for GTA cars
Instead of turning a random stretch of road into a makeshift race track, a new track means players would have a place designed specifically for high-speed driving. Don’t expect it to suddenly become a racing simulator, but if Rockstar has built a detailed circuit, there’s no reason players can’t put the game’s cars through their paces.
Of course, the leaked map is not official yet and Rockstar has not confirmed Port Gellhorn International Raceway or the exact configuration shown in the leak.
Fortunately, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer for more official information.
Rockstar plans to release an expanded look at Grand Theft Auto 6 on August 27, just one day after the latest map leak began circulating. The game itself is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
