Disney+ will add ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu’

Disney+ has announced a deal with The Pokémon Company International and Aardman that will bring the new Pokémon stop-motion series. Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu to Disney+ in 2027.
As part of the deal, Disney+ will also stream the ’90s animated series. The Pokémon series: The beginningwhich is the first official arc of the Pokémon anime and covers the adventures of Ash Ketchum through the Kanto regions and the Orange Islands. That series began streaming on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the US and select international markets.
The announcement was made in Behind the scenes with Aardman: ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu panel at Pokémon XP, a major fan event taking place in conjunction with the Pokémon World Championships 2026. That event in San Francisco attracted more than 50,000 Pokémon fans.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of a short trailer, which provided a first look at some of the series’ characters.
According to information provided by Aardman, “the new series is set in the Galar region of Pokémon and sees Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on a brave quest to help and protect Pokémon throughout the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble actions forge their friendship as they bravely venture into the unknown.”
“Filled with adventure and heroism, these stories told from the perspective of Pokémon are made even more exciting through the lens of Aardman’s incredible filmmakers.” said Phil Rynda, director of original animation at The Pokémon Company International. “Audiences will be delighted to meet Sirfetch’d and Pichu, and the wonderful cast of Pokémon that appear in this series. Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the bark of the trees, and want to go on adventures alongside our series heroes.

It’s unclear if this announcement will have an impact on The Pokémon Company International’s deal with Netflix, which currently airs older Pokémon series like Indigo League, Pokémon XY and Pokémon Horizonsas well as the Pokémon movies. Secrets of the jungle, The Chronicles of Arceus and Mewtwo strikes back. Netflix also produced several new original Pokémon series, including Pokémon Janitor and Pokémon Horizons.
