Darshan Jariwala: ‘She can play the victim card, I know my truth’: Darshan Jariwala breaks silence on his ex-wife Apara Mehta’s claims about their separation and calling her ‘the ugliest woman’ | Hindi Movie News

A while back, actress Apara Mehta opened up about her split from actor Darshan Jariwala, saying that he left the house and even called her the “ugliest woman” he has ever met. Mehta also revealed that Darshan told him that he has “fallen in love”. Now, Darshan has broken his silence and addressed the allegations made by his ex-wife.Jariwala and Mehta have lived separately for 23 years, although they were never legally divorced. In response to Mehta’s account, Darshan questioned his recollection of the events and suggested that his version could be the result of what he described as a “false memory.”“There is a neurological phenomenon in which, over time, the memory of an event continues to change. I can very generously say that this is a case of false memory. As narrated, nothing like that happened,” Jariwala said in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan. The actor also denied that he had made any comments about Mehta’s appearance, arguing that such comments were never in line with his personality.“I’m not that kind of person who would tell a plain-looking woman that she’s ugly. It would be a very irrelevant comment. If I know myself well, I would talk about what the person is like on the inside, and not really from the outside,” he added.Jariwala said Mehta was “absolutely welcome” to “play the victim card,” but maintained that she has moved on from her past and is “very happy” with her current life. The actor has been in a relationship with the interior designer and architect Anahita Italia since 2010.Questioning why the allegations had surfaced decades after their separation, Jariwala said: “I can’t even understand why he would want to talk about these things 23 years after being separated. And never this before! “If this is the story and she has had the opportunity to take this to the media, why now?” he said.He further maintained that he could only speak about his own version of events and could not determine Mehta’s intentions.“We can’t sit in their mind and judge. I know my truth. My truth is my truth. There is no limit to lies. I can’t even measure their motivation,” Jariwala said.“People who really know me know the whole story very well because my version doesn’t change. The truth has no versions,” he added.Explaining what led to their separation, Darshan attributed it to the fact that the couple gradually developed different priorities and perspectives after marrying in 1982. He said changes in their personal circumstances, careers and financial situation also contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.“Two people grow and become different. If you plant two saplings together, they will grow differently. Their priorities are different, mine were different. My circumstances changed because I was involved in a failed business. Even our thinking about how we want to approach our careers was different. So, we try to give the best childhood to our daughter. We had it very clear there. “A relationship sometimes goes through changes,” said the actor.Darshan also addressed why his marriage was never legally dissolved. According to him, he had started divorce proceedings, but the process was not carried out.“I filed divorce papers, but the judge rejected the request. She did not give her consent,” the actor said.He further stated, “She had agreed to the divorce, but changed her mind in front of the judge at the last minute. She is probably playing the character of a nice, aggrieved victim.”The actor also recalled leaving his house in Santacruz West and allowing Mehta and his daughter to stay there. Recounting that he “just left his house,” Darshan said he left behind what he could give them.“That’s all I had to give him. If anyone had to ask for alimony, it should have been me because I was in those circumstances. But none of that happened.”Jariwala said he did not have another house or enough money to rent accommodation immediately after leaving. Consequently, he stayed with friends for a time before he was able to rent a modest house.“But the circumstances were such that I went through that pain despite that,” Jariwala said.Darshan’s career later recovered after years of financial and professional struggles. He then appeared in a popular cola commercial alongside Aishwarya Rai before gaining wide recognition for his National Award-winning performance in Feroz Abbas Khan’s 2007 period drama Gandhi, My Father.During the interview, the actor also talked about his relationship with his daughter. He said the two remain in regular contact and share a close relationship.“I’m pretty good at being a parent. I stay in touch with her. I’m very aware of all the happenings in her life. She has a good open channel of communication with me. She also has a debit card from me,” the actor said.Jariwala also rejected Mehta’s claim that she raised her daughter alone, suggesting that people sometimes interpret the past through their own emotional experiences.“Sometimes we take a void in our lives and try to decorate it. We put strangeness where there is nothing, consciously or unconsciously,” Jariwala said.
