The 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards continued into Night 2 in Los Angeles on Sunday with the second of two creative arts ceremonies, honoring artists, shows and creators in a variety of categories.Held at the Peacock Theater on the second day of the awards show, it focused on guest acting categories, supporting performances in limited or anthology series and films, animated programming, character voice acting performances, and honors related to writing and music.

Two Nights of Creative Arts Emmy Awards

The Television Academy presents more than 100 Primetime Emmy Awards, with the majority presented at the two Creative Arts ceremonies. The events were previously known as the Creative Arts Emmys, but have now been positioned as the first two nights of the 78th Emmy Awards.The two ceremonies will be edited together for a television broadcast on FXX on September 12, with the broadcast available on Hulu the following day.The main Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the ceremony is scheduled to air live on NBC and live on Peacock.

Top nominees “The Pitt,” “Hacks,” “Pluribus” and “Widow’s Bay” will have a chance to stock up on Emmys Sunday at an early ceremony, eight days before the main awards show and telecast.Hargitay was among the winners, earning two for the documentary she directed about her mother, Jayne Mansfield, “My Mom Jayne,” along with the best drama actress Emmy she won in 2006 for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”Bad Bunny won the first Emmy Award of his career for his Super Bowl halftime show, which took home seven trophies.“The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny” won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special, beating the Oscar, Grammy and Tony telecasts. Bad Bunny, nominated by his birth name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, wins an Emmy as producer and performer. It was his first nomination.“The Pitt,” HBO Max’s everyday medical series, won best drama for its first season and is this year’s top overall contender with 25 nominations. He could win up to nine on Sunday. “Hacks,” also from HBO Max, earned a record 24 comedy nominations for its fifth and final season and could win as many as a dozen on Sunday.Rob Reiner, murdered along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner in December, could win a posthumous Emmy. He was nominated for guest actor in a comedy for “The Bear,” some 50 years after winning two Emmy Awards for his performance in “All in the Family.”Five-time Emmy winner Michael J. Fox is also nominated in the same category for playing a patient in “Shrinking” who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, which the actor was diagnosed with in the 1990s.The night’s star power will increase when the academy moves five categories from the Sept. 14 broadcast to Sunday. They include best supporting actor and actress in a limited series, with nominees including Jason Bateman, Charles Melton, Dakota Fanning and Laurie Metcalf.“The Pitt” dominated the dramatic acting nominations and has two performers nominated for best guest actor in a drama along with three nominees for best guest actress. They include Tal Anderson, an autistic actor and advocate for neurodivergent artists and performances. She earned her first Emmy nomination for playing Becca King, the younger sister of Taylor Dearden’s Dr. Mel King.Dearden, one of four women from “The Pitt” nominated for best supporting actress this year, will be among Sunday’s presenters as will Noah Wyle, the star of “The Pitt” who is nominated for four Emmy Awards at the main ceremony.Five of the seven nominees for best guest actress in a comedy come from “Hacks,” including Leslie Bibb and Metcalf, who could take home two Emmys.A pair of Apple TV rookie series could make a big mark at the Emmys if they get a head start on Sunday. Horror comedy “Widow’s Bay” could earn up to 10 this weekend. And “Pluribus,” the one-woman-against-the-hive-mind drama from “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan, starring best actress favorite Rhee Seahorn, could also win 10 at the early ceremony.
