Secretary Rubio explains about US aid to Venezuela after the earthquake
Secretary Rubio, in Manama, Bahrain, describes the US government’s comprehensive response to Venezuela’s back-to-back earthquakes. He confirmed the immediate deployment of search and rescue teams, medical services and humanitarian aid, stressing the urgency of saving lives. The Trump administration says it has the full support of Venezuela’s government during aid efforts in the months after the ouster of former dictator Nicolás Maduro, sparking anger among the president’s opponents.
After the 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes in the northern part of the South American country last week, the US government stepped in to help in a measure that the administration said was welcomed by the Venezuelan government and citizens alike.
“We have seen complete compliance by the interim authorities in Venezuela because of the unprecedented response of the United States to this deadly earthquake,” a State Department official told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

The death toll from the natural disaster stands at around 2,000 and continues to rise.
“All the requests we have made have been accepted immediately, and we have seen the support of the Venezuelan people from the American people on the ground,” the official continued.

On January 3, US special forces successfully captured Maduro after a fierce nighttime operation that overwhelmed the dictator’s armed guards. After entering Maduro’s palace, they put him in custody. He was extradited to the United States where he remains in prison awaiting trial on narco-terrorism and firearms charges.
The progressive political left rushed to the defense of the brutal socialist activist after his arrest.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., warned that the event risks violating international law, while Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., calling the United States a “rogue state.”
“Trump’s act of illegally bombing Venezuela and kidnapping its president is a serious violation of international law and the US Constitution. These are the actions of a corrupt country,” Tlaib wrote on social media.
“The American people do not want another state to turn the war abroad,” he added.

“The illegal election of Maduro does not give the president the power to attack without the consent of the congress, and it does not constitute a reason for the security of the country. This dispute is ridiculous,” said Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn.
The Trump administration has taken immediate action to help Venezuelans during the crisis, including mobilizing $150 million in humanitarian aid.
It assembled a Disaster Assistance Team (DART) of more than 250 people, including three specialized Urban Search-and-Rescue (USAR) teams. Authorities say the teams have taken important steps to save lives.

The Supreme Court of Venezuela installed Delcy Rodríguez as the interim president of the country.

Since then, diplomatic relations with the country have been restored, although officials in Washington have made it clear that such cooperation is temporary, while stressing that the US does not see its president as a permanent solution.
