Emmy 2026: Long streaming gaps between seasons are changing who competes

Why the Emmys schedule is more important now
The platform’s dominance at the Emmys is becoming more episodic. A company’s haul in a given year increasingly depends on which of its major shows falls within the eligibility window, and a smaller slate with two new titles can outperform a larger one built around returning series.
That gives an advantage to two types of operators: platforms that can schedule major releases in the window and productions that can deliver a season in consecutive years. Everyone else risks giving up a year of awards visibility while their shows are still in production.
