The company later told USA Today: “As always, we are concerned when anti-Semitic tropes are invoked in supposedly serving a commercial dispute. Words like “genocide” and “apartheid,” applied to a corporate transaction, are not only incorrect: they are a bridge too far and cheapen the very real suffering those words are intended to describe. “This does not deserve a response of the same type and, to be clear, we do not tolerate bias of any kind against anyone.”Following these accusations, Ruffalo took to his X account (formerly known as Twitter) to share his opinion about what happened and deny the claims made by the company. He wrote: “The accusation that I am an anti-Semitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a contract for military technology, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing the Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly presented as anti-Israel.”He continued in his post about how his comments were related to his political ideology and should never have been seen as an act of “hostility” toward the Jewish people. He further added: “This merger has real consequences for real people and for the entire country. Examining the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business based on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary.He concluded his post by sharing how lawmakers have called for a security review, which has not yet been done, and how “it’s time to boldly dive into all of these issues, not step back or give in.”
