New fuel efficiency figures for Maruti Baleno
The petrol manual version of the Baleno now offers 1.45 kpl more than before, while the AMT sees an improvement of 1.83 kpl. The Baleno CNG sees the biggest improvement, with an increase of 3 km/kg.
What is interesting is that Maruti has achieved these improvements even though the new Baleno is relatively heavier than the previous version. The new Baleno MT petrol has a maximum curb weight of 985 kg, 30 kg more than the 955 kg of the old MT petrol. Similarly, the petrol AMT is now 30kg heavier at 990kg compared to the previous version’s 960kg. Meanwhile, the new Baleno CNG-MT weighs 1,055 kg, 20 kg more than the previous version’s 1,035 kg.
New Maruti Baleno powertrain specifications
While the K12N engine had four cylinders, the new Z12E engine used in the facelifted hatchback has one less cylinder. It has been tuned to offer better fuel efficiency, as reflected in the claimed figures. The Z12E engine also has a relatively low maximum power. Power is reduced by 7 HP in gasoline mode and 7.5 HP in CNG mode, while torque is reduced by 1 Nm in gasoline mode and 3.5 Nm in CNG mode. Streaming options remain the same.
The new Maruti Baleno is priced at Rs 6.10 lakh, ex-showroom. The automaker has not announced the full pricing of the variants at the time of writing.
